Technical Services

This department operates autonomously in its technical, research and other service activities to ensure focus on technological advancement of Sasko’s grain, bread and pasta divisions.  The department is staffed with suitably qualified specialists in the fields of technology improvement, food security and integrity, laboratory analyses, new product development and optimisation of existing products.  The service is further extended to operational activities through the full supply chain from raw material to finished products. Ingredient and final product specification sheets aligned to customer and legislative requirements are completed.  Operational efficiencies as well as plant and equipment selection is investigated and recommended.

As one of the most progressive staple food manufacturing companies in South Africa, food safety and integrity is of paramount importance to Sasko.  The directive to ensure safe foods of premium quality to our consumers is supported from the top of the organisation through to our manufacturing units and have become a way of life in Sasko.

Sasko has adopted the internationally recognised HACCP programme (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) to ensure the safety and integrity of our final products.  This programme is administered and audited by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).  Ongoing training of staff and redesigning of plants ensure commitment and compliance to food safety.

New Product Development

The main objective of this department is to stay abreast, through pro-active market research, of new consumer trends and requirements and to develop innovative products to satisfy their needs.

It is also the purpose of this department to compile final product data sheets to ensure that label declarations are in line with legislation and are an accurate reflection of the final product contents.

Sasko’s product basket caters for all segments of the population with a vast range of products.  Sasko was the first company to provide a vitamin enriched bread to the market which eventually became legislation in South Africa.  This innovation has made tremendous inroads into adding health and nutrition to a traditional staple food in South Africa.
